We recently went over some reasons to hire a personal trainer. Whether you’re tired of missing your fitness goals or you’re just ready for a new challenge, it’s important to find the right personal trainer for your needs. Here are five tips worth considering as you make this decision:

Ask about their qualifications

There’s a lot of gray area when it comes to personal training. What we mean by this is that anyone can call himself or herself a personal trainer. There’s also the reality that anyone can create a course and provide “certification” for trainers.

Take the guesswork out entirely and ask your fitness coach if they hold an NCCA-approved certification. It’s worth mentioning that our personal trainers at New Jersey Fitness Factory hold certifications from The National Academy of Sports Medicine, the International Sports Science Association, and other top organizations in the fitness world.

Factor in convenience

Let’s say you want to meet with your personal trainer several times a week as a part of your weight loss efforts. When you take your family and work responsibilities into account, does it really make sense to work with a fitness coach who’s all the way across town? The last thing you want is to get burned out from your training just because of the drive.

Check references

Believe it or not, client before-and-after photos are fabricated throughout the fitness world. That’s why we suggest asking the personal trainers on your list to provide several references. If the trainer is reluctant to provide references for whatever reason, it’s probably best to cross them off your list and move on to the next one.

Avoid letting money be the deciding factor

We’re all looking to save money whenever possible. But when the time comes to hire a certified personal trainer, it’s probably not the best idea to go with the cheapest one you can find. Remember that you’re making the decision to invest in your health — don’t let your wallet dictate who you hire.

Bring up any special needs

This is a big one. Should you have a chronic health condition, the personal trainer you hire should be comfortable moving forward with your fitness regimen. On top of that, your fitness coach should have no problem working with your primary care physician, chiropractor, etc.
